A pleasant stroll with our qualified local guide through the historic center of Arezzo to discover, in addition to art and architecture, the iconic sites linked to the Giostra del Saracino.
Our qualified English-speaking driver will take you in an air-conditioned van from your hotel in Florence to the city of Arezzo. You will embark, accompanied by our local guide, on a fascinating walking tour to discover the iconic sites associated with the Giostra del Saracino. This walk will begin at the Duomo dei Santi Pietro e Donato, one of the city's artistic symbols and an excellent starting point for immersing ourselves in Arezzo's medieval past, focusing our attention on the Gothic façade. We will quickly reach the heart of the competition, the trapezoid-shaped Piazza Grande, where knights from the four city districts attempt to hit the buratto, a puppet representing the Saracen. Moving sideways, we will see the Logge Vasari, in Renaissance style, which is an excellent spot for taking scenic photos of the entire square. As you wander through the streets of the historic center, you'll encounter the four districts: Porta Crucifera, home to the historical parade; Porta Sant'Andrea, full of medieval alleys and towers; Poro del Foro with historic shops and picturesque views; and finally, Porta Santo Spirito, the characteristic village. The tour ends by descending to Corso Italia, lined with shops and boutiques. To learn more about the history, costumes, and spirit of the Giostra, it's worth visiting the "I Colori della Giostra" Museum, located in the town hall, not far from Piazza Grande.
